Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Skoo — what we provide, what we promise, and what we ask of you, whether you're buying a ticket or packing a venue.
Last updated: 19 September 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Skoo Ltd ("Skoo", "we", "us"), a company registered in Kenya with its offices in Nairobi. By creating an account, buying a ticket, listing an event, or otherwise using the Skoo website, apps and services (together, the "Platform"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
1. What Skoo is
Skoo is an event platform built around three pillars: Marketing, Community and Ticketing. We give organisers tools to create and promote events, sell tickets and collect contributions, and check attendees in with QR codes — and we give attendees a way to discover events, see who's going, and buy tickets securely.
Skoo provides the platform; we are not the organiser of the events listed on it (unless an event is expressly marked as hosted by Skoo). The organiser of each event is solely responsible for the event itself.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to buy tickets or create an organiser account.
- You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Keep your login credentials and M-Pesa PIN private — Skoo will never ask for your M-Pesa PIN outside of a genuine STK push prompt on your own phone.
- We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms or that we reasonably believe are being used fraudulently.
3. Buying tickets
- Each ticket purchase is a contract between you and the event organiser. Skoo facilitates the sale and issues your QR ticket, but the event itself is the organiser's responsibility.
- Prices are shown in Kenyan Shillings (KES) and include applicable fees unless stated otherwise. You will always see the total before you pay.
- Payment is made via M-Pesa (STK push), Airtel Money, Visa or Mastercard. A ticket is only confirmed once payment has been authorised — a completed checkout produces a unique QR code and ticket reference.
- Each QR code is unique to its ticket and admits one person per ticket. Do not share or post your QR publicly — first scan wins at the gate, and duplicated tickets will be turned away.
- Tickets are personal to the purchaser and may not be resold above face value. Skoo may cancel tickets that appear to have been bought by bots or for unauthorised resale.
- Some events are free or RSVP-only, and fundraiser events allow contribute-any-amount giving; the same ticket and QR rules apply to entry tickets issued for those events.
4. Refunds, cancellations and postponements
- If an event is cancelled, the organiser must offer a full refund of the ticket price, and Skoo will process refunds to the original payment method (M-Pesa reversal or card refund) within 14 working days.
- If an event is postponed, your ticket remains valid for the new date unless the organiser states otherwise; if you cannot attend the new date, you may request a refund within the window the organiser publishes.
- Change-of-mind refunds are at the organiser's discretion unless their published refund policy says otherwise — always check the refund policy on the event page before buying.
- Skoo's platform fees are non-refundable where a refund is issued for a reason within the organiser's control.
5. For organisers
- Organisers must be authorised to run the event they list, hold any required licences or permits (including county permits, NEMA or music copyright licences where applicable), and provide accurate event information — date, venue, capacity, pricing and refund policy.
- Skoo charges a simple service fee of 4.5% on each paid ticket sold; free and RSVP events are free to list and run. Payment processing fees charged by M-Pesa or card networks may be passed through at cost.
- Ticket revenue, less fees, is settled to the organiser's nominated M-Pesa or bank account on the payout schedule shown in the organiser dashboard, typically within 3–5 working days after the event.
- Skoo may hold or delay settlement where we reasonably suspect fraud, unsafe events, chargebacks, or breach of these Terms.
- Fundraiser and harambee events must describe a genuine cause, and organisers are responsible for applying funds as described. Skoo may require supporting information for fundraiser listings and may remove fundraisers that mislead donors.
- Organiser tools such as bulk SMS/email, featured listings, raffles and sponsorship features must only be used lawfully — no spam, no unsolicited marketing to people who haven't interacted with your events, and raffles must comply with Kenyan betting and lottery law.
6. Community rules
- Be honest and respectful. Reviews and ratings must reflect genuine experiences.
- No harassment, hate speech, or discrimination — including content targeting anyone on the basis of ethnicity, religion, gender, disability or sexual orientation.
- "Who's going" information is shared to help the community; do not scrape, harvest or misuse other attendees' information.
- We may remove content or events that breach these rules or that we consider unsafe, fraudulent or unlawful.
7. Prohibited events and conduct
You may not use Skoo for events or activity that are unlawful in Kenya, including but not limited to: events inciting violence or hatred; unlicensed sale of alcohol or regulated goods; pyramid or Ponzi schemes presented as fundraisers; ticket fraud or counterfeiting; and any use of the Platform to process payments unrelated to a genuine event or cause.
8. Intellectual property
The Skoo name, logo, brand colours and the Platform itself are the property of Skoo Ltd. Organisers retain ownership of their event content but grant Skoo a licence to display and promote it on the Platform and in Skoo's marketing. You may not copy, scrape or reproduce substantial parts of the Platform without our written permission.
9. Privacy and data
We handle personal data in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. Ticket buyers' details are used to fulfil orders, issue QR tickets and (where you opt in) send updates. Organisers only receive attendee data needed to run their events. We never sell personal data. QR tickets work offline — your ticket is validated at the gate without needing a live connection.
10. Liability
- Skoo is not liable for the acts or omissions of event organisers, including event quality, safety, cancellation or how fundraiser proceeds are used — though we enforce the standards in these Terms and will remove bad actors.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, Skoo's liability for any claim relating to the Platform is limited to the fees you paid us for the transaction in question.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded under Kenyan law.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Platform or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Skoo after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Disputes will first be handled through good-faith negotiation; failing that, they will be resolved in the courts of Kenya, which the parties accept as the exclusive forum.
